I haven't been to Sushi mMaki in a loooong time. And one of the reasons is since they have branched out into being a franchise I feel like they have lost that personalized allure. But skip it to a couple of weeks ago and I found myself back in my to go sushi spot. I must admit after a long hiatus from this place, I'm really happy I have come back! I sat at the bar and Brandy made me feel like an actual person! I havent had an interactive eating experience in a long time. She let me try out one of their tacos on the house, she was talkative and informative about the changes in the menu, and she did it all while serving other clients and doing her job. This is what service should feel like at all restaurants! Definitely coming back just to see my new favorite sushi chef!

I ordered take out. Got the fried rice tuna appetizer and the Cali Ocho roll (crab, sweet plantain...). The appetizer was 3.5/5 because the rice was greasy but tasty and the tuna lacked flavor (I expected that nice ahi taste). The Cali Ocho was very disappointing. I got it with brown rice and the rice was not cooked all the way. Honestly, not very good sushi...or many I didn't order the right thing.

I like this Sushi Maki's proximity to Sunset Place and we ate here after seeing a movie. The beef ramen was good and a plentiful portion. The Coral Reef roll was "just ok" The tuna sliders were on what seemed like common hot dog buns, however the siracha infused tuna washed down with an ice cold Kirin hit the spot. 4 stars because of the gratis spicy tuna crispy rice with Yelp check-in and for a polite, attentive and knowledgable waiter. I prefer Sushi Maki's Palmetto Bay location for ambience and the food seemed a little higher quality. However, this location served it's purpose for a good post-movie meal.

It wasn't such a good experience. I arrived for a Saturday lunch, the place seemed quite empty, still my waiter was in such a rush.... I order appetizers and while I was eating it, my food arrived. Thank God it was cold, so that wasn't a big problem. But the sushi wasn't made properly. They were unequal in size and filling, either had little salmon or too much rice, but never proportional, something that was not tasteful enough for me, who loves sushi and know many sushi places around. While the food wasn't bad - not exceptional as well, the experience was not memorable at all. I will think twice before coming here again.

I've been to this sushi maki various times and I've always had a good experience. Not only do I love the story of the founder and their purpose but I feel like it's truly followed up in the restaurant. Small, cozy, quaint with great friendly service. I've ordered various sushi rolls, friend rice, soup and my son orders from the children's menu and it comes in a big boat which he loves. All the food has always been great. Particularly this one by sunset place it's across the street prime location where you can sit out side and enjoy the ambiance.

We placed a large order for pickup tonight! The order was accurate and everything was tasty! We ordered a few sushi rolls (California, Dragon, Coral Reef). All were fresh and tasty! We ordered 3 types of Pad Thai, and the bacon fried rice! All were great except the fried rice could have used a little soy sauce! Overall a great meal at a decent price! Parking is difficult here because they are located on the busiest part of Sunset Drive near Sunset Place! There's metered parking and various lots where you will have to pay!

Decent sushi here at affordable prices. I liked the Nigiri combos, as they gave decent quality fish in the combo. However, often times I would try to order some "higher tier" items like Uni, they would be out, or sometimes not be as fresh as what would be the most commonly ordered items.

I came in for lunch, the server was super nice to me. I sat at the bar in front of the chef that was making the sushi. I had the lobster roll Which wasn't amazing... But then another table sat down and I saw how the chef finished the sushi order and just let it sit down there without telling the server to pick it up (or even take it herself because it was so empty). It was lacking energy. For dessert the Thai donuts are good, not great but good.

I come here all the time to have the tuna salad, it's amazing. The service here has never been great but when I went last night for dinner it was horrendous. My boyfriend and I waited at the door without even being acknowledged for at least five minutes. Then after we were seated and placed our orders the waiter pretty much slammed our appetizer down making all the dishes on the table jump and clatter. When the waiter cleared the dishes he wiped the table with a dirty wet rag and wiped our hands that were on the table as well. Disgusting. We decided we're not animals to be treated that way, so we won't be returning which is a shame since we really look forward to having that tuna salad. If anything we would recommend ordering to-go.

Some of the things I look for in a business are the way they treat their clients, the quality products they offer, the pride they take in their business and how they may be always looking to improve themselves. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the extent to which Sushi Maki has taken steps to ensure all of this. The service staff at this location had a wonderful and warm disposition, which any restaurant should feel very proud of -- and the food was a hit. All three tuna tacos are spot on. Being Peruvian I could not pass up the Haystack roll which did not disappoint. The Red Dragon Reloaded is a must. My husband ordered a Peking Duck roll which he enjoyed (not a meat kind of gal myself but he was happy!).. I really wanted to try the Coral Reef roll and the Whole Foods roll as they also sounded phenomenal. I suppose I will have to wait for the next time I go. Bottom line, definitely recommend!!

I hadn't gone to sushi market for a long time, but recently attended the taste of the Gables and tried one of their signature rolls and a crunchy taco with tuna. Their menu has been totally revamped so I decided to order take out. I must say their online ordering system is phenomenal. You can view the menu and add to your cart. They have new summer rolls which have basil and cilantro which makes the roll refreshing. The crunchy tacos are also great. Nice additions to their menu.

Terrible. Do not order from here!!! This is sadly the only sushi restaurant near me, but if you have ANY other option, take it, because ordering from here is a literal nightmare. I've ordered from them about 20 times before and this is my average experience. First off, depending on where you live, it takes 10-30 minutes for them to repeatedly redirect you from location to location, because the location that is closest to you will only deliver to you about 20% of the time. Most of the time they'll tell you it's out of their range no matter how much you try to explain to them that they're the closest restaurant, even if they've delivered to you before. After you finally convince them to deliver, they'll usually hand the phone to one of the hostesses who has an INCREDIBLY limited grasp of English (like seriously, I've had one of them ask me to spell "Road" for her), or if you're really unlucky they'll transfer you to one of the managers who will rudely rush you through ordering and criticize you for not knowing about the weekly changes they make to the menu (one of them actually told me to "read the F---ing menu" and hung up on me) Eating at this place is fine, but avoid ordering delivery from here at all costs.

I hadn't been here in years. The menu has changed since then. I think it has improved. We checked in & got the free Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. It was delicious. I wouldn't have ordered that because I always think "crispy" means the whole roll is fried..well, it's not. We ordered 3 rolls: the Peking Duck Roll, the 2 Timing Tuna Roll & some kind of volcano roll with smoked salmon. We enjoyed all 3. It was seriously a lot of food. Even the free appetizer was very generous. We couldn't finish everything. I wish I would have had more room to try the tacos. They have 3 types: yellowtail, spicy tuna & salmon. I will definitely be going back to try those. If you haven't been in a while, give it a try. Maybe you'll be happy you did, like me.

I usually order sushi when I eat here but I decided to try something new: chicken pad thai. I must say, it smelled good, looked good, and tasted good. The flavors were awesome and the chicken and eggs were cooked well. It was a mixture of sweet citrus, peanuts, and salty fish flavor. The portion was rather large, so I ate the rest later and it kept it's consistency and flavor. I also noticed they had a new bubble tea menu, which was kind of confusing but I ended up loving it. I ordered the lychee bubble tea, but instead of tapioca balls I got lychee jelly. It was sweet and fruity and everything I could ask for.

Don't know why it's not packed to the brim! Love this place! Very tasty sushi and the fried rice is bomb! The spicy beef ramen is not bad. I've never tried the rolls but they're not bad! Pad thai is the best! Employees are pretty friendly, and even though I called once and they forgot to put in my order, causing me to wait an extra 20 minutes during my lunch hour, they didn't give me any attitude. I always leave a big tip whenever I dine there with my girlfriend!

Omg, how did I not review Sushi Maki yet?! Other than the free Saketini (smaller than I expected) from the Yelp check in offer I was not pleased. The sushi is alright - not great, not horrible. There's a lot of rice and not a lot of fish to be found in the rolls. At this price range, I feel like there are better sushi options out there. The miso sea bass I ordered was a joke. It was $12 if I remember correctly. It was a 1 inch by 4 (I think I'm being generous here) inches flimsy offering of fish. Slightly overcooked, masked too heavily by the thick, overly sweet sauce it made me sad. Finding a big ol' fish bone stabbing the roof of my mouth was the last nail in the coffin. It was so small, how did they miss the bone? I've visited their Kendall location, their stand in Whole Foods, and now their Sunset location. Wow, I just don't learn my lesson do I?

Ended up here for dinner last night only after nearby Akashi was packed. I'll most likely try to stay away in the future. Ordered miso soup which was ok but nothing special, octopus sunamono could have been a lot better had the octopus been sliced instead of chopped, whole foods roll was alright, and spider roll was pretty good. I also had the spicy tuna crispy rice which was complimentary with a yelp check-in, not horrible. Service was average. Server appeared not to know the menu. Manager seemed to be involved at times, but she could have smiled at least once through the night and actually acknowledged when we left. Instead someone who had not provided service previously bid us farewell. Plenty lacking throughout.

I hadn't eaten here in forever so I was ecstatic to return. I had the spicy tuna roll which was good-however different than I remember/expected. I think there was a little hint of citrus...maybe lime? It was still delicious-I appreciated the bit of tangy-ness (I had gotten used to eating them w/ a spicy mayo somewhere on the plate from my travels elsewhere). I wasn't impressed with the unagi nigiri. The rice was more of a squared chunk rather than the rectangular platform I would've preferred. I realize that eel isn't necessarily the leanest protein out there but fat wasn't the most appetizing thing to see hanging from the edge of the pieces...which may not have stood out as much had there been rice distributed more evenly beneath it. The flavor was good just a bit greasier than I expected. The saki was yummy and inexpensive. Awesome music on in the background! They were playing Bob Marley when I entered. And there's a flat screen that was on ESPN. Very chill vibe and casual. This was the first time I had eaten inside to be honest. I'll probably sit at the bar the next time. It was full when I arrived around 6:30 or so. There was a steady flow of guests and a well mixed crowd; a family w/ two little kids-a young couple; guys sharing a bucket of beers...definitely a great place to start the evening. I would totally pre-game here. Service was okay. I think an owner/manager took care of me. She probably could've smiled more...and she expected me to be ready to order rather quickly. I had barely glanced at the beverage list when she asked what I wanted to drink so I got a water and read it quickly before she returned. The servers around me were friendlier/had a warmer energy about them. One got me a 2cd glass of water and another checked on me to make sure I was not waiting to pay or anything as I sipped what seemed like a bottom-less carafe of sake. Best five ounces ever.

Firstly anytime I've had food here it's been delicious, no problem. This review is more for the service rather than the food which was good. A coworker and I placed an order from work for lunch as most of us 9-5ers do and waited for our food to be delivered. Time goes by driver comes in but sadly has only one order with him, which happened to be mine. I promptly contacted Sushi Maki spoke to a pleasant girl by the name of Cathy who apologized and immediately put me through to the manager Jennifer. I wasn't upset just bummed that I would have to eat and work at the same time. Jennifer immediately apologized, offered a discount and even threw in a little something extra for the trouble. I can honestly say the Manager Jennifer went above and beyond to make the situation as best she could and for that I'm grateful. She was extremely pleasant and assured me my lunch would be out to me as soon as the driver returned for another pick-up and it was. So shout out to the manager Jennifer and to Cathy (and the driver for making two trips). You guys are great and thank you for the A++ service and the great food.

My boyfriend and I are looking for a sushi place to call home. Sadly this is not it. The service was average but I was disappointed by the food. I ordered the "crunch" roll. It was FIVE pieces. This is a portion size for someone that has already had a feast, not a meal in itself. I have been to dozens of sushi places and this was by far the smallest serving. The pieces notwithstanding were enjoyable, but I found the volcano roll sauce made it MUCH better. (Keep reading) My boyfriend ordered the volcano roll. He got 8 pieces, but the roll was covered in at least 3 oz of the mayo-based sauce. He spent a solid five minutes moving globs of mayo off of the roll so that the roll was visible to the naked eye. Any flavor of the roll was overpowered by the sauce, so it basically tasted like rice textured mayo. It was a $40 meal for two rolls and unsweet tea. Sorry Sushi Maki, you are not the place for me.

I've gone to two maki locations and both locations have had the same good service and good quality food. I'm not a big raw sushi fan so I stick with the cooked rolls(for an indicator on my personal review). Everything is presented in a nice manner and nothing taste foul or unappealing. The dragon rolls are great as well as the kobe beef sliders.You don't have to she'll out a pretty coin or two to indulge at this place either. TIP: if you check in at the location you automatically get a free saki drink. :)

Really, the staff was more than friendly to suggest great pieces in their menu and the prices (I was on a date) were unbelievably cheap,..so much she wowed at them. On my search for a G.F. in Miami and just recently moved from NYC, this place was suggested by a friend. The ambiance is family and date friendly, the space allocated for a couple is nice enough to talk to each other without feeling crammed. Great place for a quick sushi trip in South Miami. Some of my favorite items here are the chili garlic edamame (a little spicy for me, but worth the tears), tuna tataki, dragon roll, and rainbow roll. You also have the option of ordering your roll with brown rice for no extra charge. I used the Yelp check-in to get a free sake cocktail and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to eating here again.

I loved Sushi Maki, for $8 you get a great bento box for lunch which includes your choice of a soup or salad with edamame, 4 pieces of California Roll, pork goyza, fried rice and red curry chicken. In south Miami that's a pretty decently priced lunch! However, my bento box came with the addition of human hair in the red curry chicken, not once but twice. The first time it happened which was last Tuesday the waiter replaced my meal and it happened again today! The manager was nice enough to offer a 15% but hair in my food with the time span of a week is too much for me to stomach. I won't be coming here again for lunch.

Decor is nice and the restaurant is very open. The sushi bar wasn't that big but they had quite a lot of tables. The service was good. Our waitress was attentive and very nice. Our drinks were never half full, but always replenished! The food was decent. I ordered the lunch special which was a California Roll and 6 pieces of sashimi of the chefs choice. It also came with a bowl of Miso soup. Mine was very good! It was a ton of food for a good price at lunch. The fish was good and cold but it wasn't the best I have had. Mom ordered some type of a roll with these sweet onion strings on top. The flavor wasn't all that good but she enjoyed it! A decent place for the area. I have experienced better sushi but their prices are good for the location! We will prob stop back in!

Normally I Yelp restaurants before eating there and that has never failed me. My Mendoza Line is 4 stars. Hadn't eaten here in awhile and did not Yelp it until I finished eating. Figured it was just lunch and a few blocks from my office. Bad mistake on my part. Ordered a Dynamite Roll which I just about order in every Sushi restaurant I frequent. Each one is better than the next, except here. Normally served warm/hot dripping with mayo and flavor. This one was cold as if it was made the night before and put away for the next day. Worst dynamite roll I ever had. The items on the Bento lunch box also lacked flavor. Safe to say I won't be back again. Guess I had not been back for a reason. Too bad I forgot why.

Really more of a 3.5 to 4. But, my beer was forgotten, and there must be retribution. We were at the Art Festival & popped in here for lunch. Truthfully, it was more of a strolling halt on the sidewalk. Eating outside, especially during a fair, leads to stellar people watching. The special pad thai was exactly what I was looking for. Though I wound up looking for more shrimp. Two pieces isn't very special. And the sauce could have been toned back a bit. This didn't stop me from clearing the plate however.

These are not the freshest sushi you can find in Miami, but usually people go because of the convenience, relative affordability, and the upscale vibe. Note about the vibe: I didn't really find this location to be very upscale - it just reminded me somewhat more of Starbucks but with more wooden furnitures than sofas. The Gables location is nicer-looking in the inside, so next time I want to have Sushi Maki, I'll probably check out the Gables. I have not checked out the Pinecrest location. That being said, I liked the Crunchy Roll which has no rice and is replaced with salmon, and stuffed with asparagus and imitation crab, wrapped in seaweed, and then is tempura fried. I also tried the Red & Green Roll and I thought the avocado was a little unripe. The tuna tasted a bit fishy. I liked the fact that there's a seaweed salad in the roll though - but I'll probably stick with the Crunchy Roll or try something else (maybe without tuna and avocado unless if they're available more fresh on other days). I don't know about this location, but from what I understand, the newly opened Sushi Maki in FIU and UM's main campuses are to be served with sustainable fish and they have boba (bubble tea) as well! Just for that, they win some points with me.

I remember when this place was Wrapido. So glad it's Sushi Maki now. Came in late on a Saturday night with the husband and a friend. While crowded, we were seated right away. We immediately were asked for drink orders which arrived while we were still reviewing the menu. A note about the menu: it's so creative! Not only the food selections, but also the layout of the menu itself. This restaurant is committed to environmental sustainabilty, which I love. They only use certain fish and fisheries that have a reduced impact on global health. Awesome. I had steamed veggie dumplings and a beautiful fresh salad. Both items arrived at perfect temperature. The salad greens were fresh and crispy and were tossed in just enough dressing (I hate it when my salad is swimming in goop.) My dumplings were perfect. There were so many other things on the menu that I know I'll be back soon to sample some more. And I know that I will be impressed and happy each time I go.

The tacos are a definite must-order item on the menu. The sushi is phenomenal WHEN you know what to order. I always opt for the and rolls topped with tempura flakes(makes it complete). The bubble-tea is my all-time favorite beverage in tis entire universe, and they have like 6 flavors here. Hello..jackpot? I know, I know, its a chain-based restaurant which usually tend to lack luster but this place is clean, the service is extremely fast and the food: consistent. I've never had something I haven't enjoyed except maybe the over-the-top rolls which leave my mouth confused. When I am craving something healthy and quick and I am around this area then Sushi Maki does it for me. I always start with a nice bowl of hot miso soup. I love their veggie & avocado rolls. Always fresh and quick to come out. Their salad is also delicious with a wonderful ginger dressing that just hits the spot. I had previously had the veggie pot stickers but they are just not my favorite. A great starter are the addicting Adamame. The place is close to the Sunset Shops so the location is awesome, only draw back is the parking. The best area is to park by Sushi Ra's garage. Great & consistent service, very friendly. Price is average. They also deliver to my office, which is a great plus.

I got the shrimp tempura ramen. The ramen was rather salty & lack a good amount or an variety of vegetables. All I got in my ramen were seaweed, bean sprouts, carrots and two pieces of broccoli and two shrimp tempura on the side. My friend got a salmon bento box & it was rather small. It came with fried rice, edamame, salmon and miso soup. The rice has eggs, peas and carrots, it was rather ok. Her salmon was rather good but a bit tough. The miso soup was refreshing.

Sushi Maki is a great place to be on a Tuesday evening...no crowds, quick and friendly service and yes, yummy, fresh sushi. The JB Tempura roll is great for beginners (like me), and you could do no wrong with the classic Dragon Roll--don't forget the extra eel sauce on the side! Overall, this place has my approval and I will definitely be back for more.

I mean for a quick lunch bite this place does the trick. The decor is simple but elegant and comfortable. The service lacks some but then again we showed up at the end of the lunch shift and she was probably the last one and ready to change the shift and leave. My friend and I had some of their lunch bento specials, which were pretty satisfying for 7 bucks. I mean it wasn't out of this world sushi, but it definitely did the trick. It came with 4 pieces of sushi, a california roll, edemame, fried rice, and 2 of their special dumplings and you can opt for miso soup or salad. I had dinner at Sushi Maki for the first time last week, and must say it was pretty darn good! I asked our server for a recommendation and he suggested the Coral Reef roll, which was fantastic. In fact, it was so good I spent the entire next day craving it. I also tried the eel roll which was bigger and better than many I have tried. No complaints about the service or the prices. Parking in the garage around the corner is a snap, and on weeknights it only costs $1 per hour.

Sushi Maki is a decent place to go to when you are in the South Miami area looking for sushi. I go for lunch every once in a while with my co-workers. The lunch specials are pretty good , I usually get the sushi lunch special for 11.95. It comes with 6 pieces of sushi and California roll, I upgrade it for a dollar more for the JB Roll, this also comes with a soup or salad. There sushi is fairly fresh, nothing out of this world but pretty good. During the day if it's nice and cool out side you can sit outside and watch people passing by. You can also do this at night. I haven't been for dinner, but I don't think there dinner prices are worth this quality of sushi. We go because it's walking distance from my job, and it's pretty fresh. Can't complain, servers are pretty good, and they wrap up any left overs you may have. If you need to split checks with bigger parties they do this too. That's always a plus in my book. If you want a quick fix and your in the neighborhood I would give it a try, especially for lunch!

Sushi Maki is a simple fusion of flavors but at my last visit there, I found THE tastiest dishes off their menu! To be honest, I am not a big fan of sushi. I have had some bad experiences with sushi, including a date that did not go so well when the meal did not agree with me. And I am really not a fan of seafood under the best of circumstances. And those are just some of the reasons that I have to rate Sushi Maki so highly. I ended up there because it was close to Titanic, I was in the neighborhood, and needed to find some place for dinner that a friend (who is a real connoisseur of sushi) could enjoy. Even though it was a Saturday night, we were seated right away and the atmosphere was not too noisy to have a conversation. I went for the Dragon roll as it is fried shrimp tempura and some shumai while my friend went for three of the recommendations offered by the waitress. I found the dragon roll very tasty and was rather surprised, as I have had some of the other tempura shrimp rolls elsewhere but they did not compare. Even my friend enjoyed it. I also tried some of his coral reef roll as it was topped with something fried (i believe it was a sliver of fish) and found it surprisingly yummy. One of the things I do admire is that the taste seem balanced between tangy and sweet and does not require much else to make it a great meal. I know, I know - it is a chain. But that is not a bad thing. After all, there is a reason that a restaurant has gained enough popularity to have more than one location. And it is nice to know that no matter where you go nationwide, you should be able to find something that you like at a place that you can trust.

I wanted to put 1 star b/c the service was horrendous but the food, as usual, was good. When I lived in South Miami I loved eating @ this Sushi Maki. However, recently my b/f and I ate here and our menus were thrown at the table - the waitress came maybe 2 seconds after asking what we want to drink (which is usually a good thing) but when my b/f said, "water for now" (meaning he wanted to order something else) she grabbed the drink menu from his hand and walked away. I had to get up and go after her to get it back. And then she came back in maybe 5 sec asking what we wanted to eat (thank goodness we always order the same thing or else we wouldn't have had enough time to decide). My roll (jb tempura) and salad (spicy tuna) came at about the same time and she grabbed my salad before I was done (didn't even ask). We felt rushed the whole time and they weren't even busy! Also, when the table next to us got up the two waitress (in English) were talking sh*t about the two girls - saying they were complaining about the food and how annoying they were. That was extremely unprofessional and "annoying". We left the waitress a crappy tip - she deserved it.

Fantastic! I loved it. Though, it's freezing in that place. I'm from San Francisco and the only time I wanted to put on a jacket my entire trip was sitting at the table letting my shrimp tempura roll digest. The waitress was a doll, the veggie tempura was incredible, great service with a smile! Went here looking for some Bubble Tea with a friend. I've been to the Sushi Maki stand in the University of Miami, which is how I knew to check this place out for Bubble Tea. I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of flavors (start offering Taro!!), but the flavors they do have are good. I've also eaten here, and they give you a lot of food, and it's pretty good. I like the big wooden divided bento style boxes the lunches come out on.

Sushi Maki is part of a chain of sushi bars. The fish is fresh and tasty, but my review is about their ramen. I've been to quite a few sushi bars in my travels and not all of them serve ramen. When I first got into sushi 13 years ago, this restaurant was a go-to for dining out. My palate for asian cuisine soon advanced and I left sushi maki in the dirt. They really didn't offer anything exciting and with so many neighbouring sushi restaurants to choose from, why have good when you can have great? Fast forward to a month ago. My bf and I were walking around Sunset Drive and saw a sign for happy hour at sushi maki promoting their endless sake summer. This evening they were featuring Karen Coy sake...50% off! That's our absolute favourite sake. The only other restaurant I know that serves that is on South Beach. This was way closer (and cheaper) so we decided to go to eat also. Low and behold Sushi Maki had also updated their menu featuring many of their new rolls and appetizers at a discount during happy hour. There is definitely influence of Sushi Samba on their new menu, with sushi tacos, and tiraditos abundant. We were gluttons. We had an order of sushi tacos, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail (my fave is the tuna), and followed it with the Budda-Cane roll (shrimp tempura, with mango, avocado, spicy mayo, and sugar cane soy), the Haystack (salmon, whitefish, avocado, kanikama, topped with sweet potato strings, and ceviche mayo), and the silky smooth salmon (spicy salmon, avocado, and tempura flakes, topped with salmon and sour cream). We liked it all so much that we returned the following evening and tried in addition to more tacos, and another Budda-Cane, the Two Timing Tuna (spicy tuna, avo, temp flakes, topped with tuna) and the El Chulu Camaron (shrimp temp with guacamole, topped with tomatillo salsa). We also tried a few sake cocktails which I could take or leave. We have since returned several times and tried a few other items. Here's the breakdown. Definitely try the tacos. They're $2.50 for one but at $7 for 3 it's a pretty great deal. It'll also give you the chance to try all three varieties and pick your favourite. Pass on the Godzilla Gone Wild. I found it to be very underwhelming and very overpriced. The Budda-Cane is a mainstay, as is the two timing tuna. Good alternatives are the Haystack and the Silky Smooth Salmon. El Chulo Camaron.....meh. We haven't made it to the tiraditos yet...that'll have to wait till next time which I'm sure won't be too long. The only negative I have to say is that Endless Sake Summer....why did you have to end? I can't ait till their next happy hour promotion starts up. We'll definitely be there a lot more then.

An ordinary place, not the best sushi. I heard good things about the Gables location. But we went to the S. Miami one on a Friday night around 10pm. From what I heard I thought the surroundings and ambiance would be a little upscale, but the place looked like a fast food joint. We had the soft shell crab for starters. It's suppose to be fried and crispy but I thought it was dried out. I had the Romeo & Juliet roll as my main dish; half tuna, half bbq eel. The tuna was meager but the eel was good. The GF had the Dragon roll, which was shrimp tempura. She said she liked it. I had a bite and it was decent. We also had the doughnuts to top off our meal. It was decent with condense milk as a dipping sauce. Service could have been better considering the fact that we were the only ones there. Modest-low prices are a nice feature. At best, I see Sushi Maki as a lunch spot or dinner on the week night. I found Sushi Maki to be mediocre. I don't know about the one in the Gables but I be hard press to come back to this place.

In Miami, we get good weather (where one can sit out and enjoy a meal with a cool breeze hitting you) very rarely.. So, every time that day comes around and I feel like sushi, some from my posy and I go eat here. Good weather isn't the only time we hit up Maki, it is a bi-monthly affair b/w Maki and I. The wait staff is really nice, may be they are just used to seeing us there often enough. The sushi is good, nothing extraordinary, but simple and clean.. Their Sake selection, although not extensive, is sufficient. It's usually two of us that go here, get 3 orders of sushi or 2 orders of sushi and 2 orders of sashimi with some servings of sake (I'll leave out the exact number of bottles we can polish off). The service and the food has been consistent and I've been going to the Sunset location, for something over five years now. If you're looking for simple, clean and a relaxed meal - go to Maki.

Other than the Ra Sushi very close to this Sushi Maki, this is the only place I would come for sushi whilst in Miami. My roommate and I would come here atleast once every two weeks. The quality of the food was pretty good, but I have definitely had better. They had several interesting rolls. I would order the Coral Reef roll almost every time; probably my favorite one. Tuna, salmon, and white fish along with cream cheese, scallions and asparagus, topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. A pretty good combination for sure. I would also order the Umame Tower (tuna and salmon sashimi made into a tower along with avocado covered in a tropical fruit salsa). This was probably the best thing at Sushi Maki. Would recommend this place if you are in the area and feeling a little sushi.

But skip it to a couple of weeks ago and I found myself back in my to go sushi spot. I must admit after a long hiatus from this place, I'm really happy I have come back! I sat at the bar and Brandy made me feel like an actual person! I havent had an interactive eating experience in a long time. She let me try out one of their tacos on the house, she was talkative and informative about the changes in the menu, and she did it all while serving other clients and doing her job. This is what service should feel like at all restaurants! Definitely coming back just to see my new favorite sushi chef!

I like this Sushi Maki's proximity to Sunset Place and we ate here after seeing a movie. The beef ramen was good and a plentiful portion. The Coral Reef roll was "just ok" The tuna sliders were on what seemed like common hot dog buns, however the siracha infused tuna washed down with an ice cold Kirin hit the spot. 4 stars because of the gratis spicy tuna crispy rice with Yelp check-in and for a polite, attentive and knowledgable waiter. I prefer Sushi Maki's Palmetto Bay location for ambience and the food seemed a little higher quality. However, this location served it's purpose for a good post-movie meal.

It wasn't such a good experience. I arrived for a Saturday lunch, the place seemed quite empty, still my waiter was in such a rush.... I order appetizers and while I was eating it, my food arrived. Thank God it was cold, so that wasn't a big problem. But the sushi wasn't made properly. They were unequal in size and filling, either had little salmon or too much rice, but never proportional, something that was not tasteful enough for me, who loves sushi and know many sushi places around. While the food wasn't bad - not exceptional as well, the experience was not memorable at all. I will think twice before coming here again.

I've been to this sushi maki various times and I've always had a good experience. Not only do I love the story of the founder and their purpose but I feel like it's truly followed up in the restaurant. Small, cozy, quaint with great friendly service. I've ordered various sushi rolls, friend rice, soup and my son orders from the children's menu and it comes in a big boat which he loves. All the food has always been great. Particularly this one by sunset place it's across the street prime location where you can sit out side and enjoy the ambiance.

I come here all the time to have the tuna salad, it's amazing. The service here has never been great but when I went last night for dinner it was horrendous. My boyfriend and I waited at the door without even being acknowledged for at least five minutes. Then after we were seated and placed our orders the waiter pretty much slammed our appetizer down making all the dishes on the table jump and clatter. When the waiter cleared the dishes he wiped the table with a dirty wet rag and wiped our hands that were on the table as well. Disgusting. We decided we're not animals to be treated that way, so we won't be returning which is a shame since we really look forward to having that tuna salad. If anything we would recommend ordering to-go.

Some of the things I look for in a business are the way they treat their clients, the quality products they offer, the pride they take in their business and how they may be always looking to improve themselves. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the extent to which Sushi Maki has taken steps to ensure all of this. The service staff at this location had a wonderful and warm disposition, which any restaurant should feel very proud of -- and the food was a hit. All three tuna tacos are spot on. Being Peruvian I could not pass up the Haystack roll which did not disappoint. The Red Dragon Reloaded is a must. My husband ordered a Peking Duck roll which he enjoyed (not a meat kind of gal myself but he was happy!).. I really wanted to try the Coral Reef roll and the Whole Foods roll as they also sounded phenomenal. I suppose I will have to wait for the next time I go. Bottom line, definitely recommend!!

I hadn't gone to sushi market for a long time, but recently attended the taste of the Gables and tried one of their signature rolls and a crunchy taco with tuna. Their menu has been totally revamped so I decided to order take out. I must say their online ordering system is phenomenal. You can view the menu and add to your cart. They have new summer rolls which have basil and cilantro which makes the roll refreshing. The crunchy tacos are also great. Nice additions to their menu.

Their sushi is good. Nothing spectacular but good when you just want some good ol' sushi. I also love the steamed chicken gyozi and the sauce they come with! Their delivery takes about 45-60 minutes so it's not bad if you plan ahead.

Terrible. Do not order from here!!! This is sadly the only sushi restaurant near me, but if you have ANY other option, take it, because ordering from here is a literal nightmare. I've ordered from them about 20 times before and this is my average experience. First off, depending on where you live, it takes 10-30 minutes for them to repeatedly redirect you from location to location, because the location that is closest to you will only deliver to you about 20% of the time. Most of the time they'll tell you it's out of their range no matter how much you try to explain to them that they're the closest restaurant, even if they've delivered to you before. After you finally convince them to deliver, they'll usually hand the phone to one of the hostesses who has an INCREDIBLY limited grasp of English (like seriously, I've had one of them ask me to spell "Road" for her), or if you're really unlucky they'll transfer you to one of the managers who will rudely rush you through ordering and criticize you for not knowing about the weekly changes they make to the menu (one of them actually told me to "read the F---ing menu" and hung up on me) Eating at this place is fine, but avoid ordering delivery from here at all costs.

I hadn't been here in years. The menu has changed since then. I think it has improved. We checked in & got the free Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. It was delicious. I wouldn't have ordered that because I always think "crispy" means the whole roll is fried..well, it's not. We ordered 3 rolls: the Peking Duck Roll, the 2 Timing Tuna Roll & some kind of volcano roll with smoked salmon. We enjoyed all 3. It was seriously a lot of food. Even the free appetizer was very generous. We couldn't finish everything. I wish I would have had more room to try the tacos. They have 3 types: yellowtail, spicy tuna & salmon. I will definitely be going back to try those. If you haven't been in a while, give it a try. Maybe you'll be happy you did, like me.

Uhmm. Well, it IS convenient. And, the servers are nice there. The quality of the food is across the board really mediocre. I wish it was better but honestly, only go if everything else is closed. They try hard but the results are like grocery store sushi. Edible but not at all authentic or fresh.

I usually order sushi when I eat here but I decided to try something new: chicken pad thai. I must say, it smelled good, looked good, and tasted good. The flavors were awesome and the chicken and eggs were cooked well. It was a mixture of sweet citrus, peanuts, and salty fish flavor. The portion was rather large, so I ate the rest later and it kept it's consistency and flavor. I also noticed they had a new bubble tea menu, which was kind of confusing but I ended up loving it. I ordered the lychee bubble tea, but instead of tapioca balls I got lychee jelly. It was sweet and fruity and everything I could ask for.

Don't know why it's not packed to the brim! Love this place! Very tasty sushi and the fried rice is bomb! The spicy beef ramen is not bad. I've never tried the rolls but they're not bad! Pad thai is the best! Employees are pretty friendly, and even though I called once and they forgot to put in my order, causing me to wait an extra 20 minutes during my lunch hour, they didn't give me any attitude. I always leave a big tip whenever I dine there with my girlfriend!

Omg, how did I not review Sushi Maki yet?! Other than the free Saketini (smaller than I expected) from the Yelp check in offer I was not pleased. The sushi is alright - not great, not horrible. There's a lot of rice and not a lot of fish to be found in the rolls. At this price range, I feel like there are better sushi options out there. The miso sea bass I ordered was a joke. It was $12 if I remember correctly. It was a 1 inch by 4 (I think I'm being generous here) inches flimsy offering of fish. Slightly overcooked, masked too heavily by the thick, overly sweet sauce it made me sad. Finding a big ol' fish bone stabbing the roof of my mouth was the last nail in the coffin. It was so small, how did they miss the bone? I've visited their Kendall location, their stand in Whole Foods, and now their Sunset location. Wow, I just don't learn my lesson do I?

Ended up here for dinner last night only after nearby Akashi was packed. I'll most likely try to stay away in the future. Ordered miso soup which was ok but nothing special, octopus sunamono could have been a lot better had the octopus been sliced instead of chopped, whole foods roll was alright, and spider roll was pretty good. I also had the spicy tuna crispy rice which was complimentary with a yelp check-in, not horrible. Service was average. Server appeared not to know the menu. Manager seemed to be involved at times, but she could have smiled at least once through the night and actually acknowledged when we left. Instead someone who had not provided service previously bid us farewell. Plenty lacking throughout.

I hadn't eaten here in forever so I was ecstatic to return. I had the spicy tuna roll which was good-however different than I remember/expected. I think there was a little hint of citrus...maybe lime? It was still delicious-I appreciated the bit of tangy-ness (I had gotten used to eating them w/ a spicy mayo somewhere on the plate from my travels elsewhere). I wasn't impressed with the unagi nigiri. The rice was more of a squared chunk rather than the rectangular platform I would've preferred. I realize that eel isn't necessarily the leanest protein out there but fat wasn't the most appetizing thing to see hanging from the edge of the pieces...which may not have stood out as much had there been rice distributed more evenly beneath it. The flavor was good just a bit greasier than I expected. The saki was yummy and inexpensive. Awesome music on in the background! They were playing Bob Marley when I entered. And there's a flat screen that was on ESPN. Very chill vibe and casual. This was the first time I had eaten inside to be honest. I'll probably sit at the bar the next time. It was full when I arrived around 6:30 or so. There was a steady flow of guests and a well mixed crowd; a family w/ two little kids-a young couple; guys sharing a bucket of beers...definitely a great place to start the evening. I would totally pre-game here. Service was okay. I think an owner/manager took care of me. She probably could've smiled more...and she expected me to be ready to order rather quickly. I had barely glanced at the beverage list when she asked what I wanted to drink so I got a water and read it quickly before she returned. The servers around me were friendlier/had a warmer energy about them. One got me a 2cd glass of water and another checked on me to make sure I was not waiting to pay or anything as I sipped what seemed like a bottom-less carafe of sake. Best five ounces ever.

Firstly anytime I've had food here it's been delicious, no problem. This review is more for the service rather than the food which was good. A coworker and I placed an order from work for lunch as most of us 9-5ers do and waited for our food to be delivered. Time goes by driver comes in but sadly has only one order with him, which happened to be mine. I promptly contacted Sushi Maki spoke to a pleasant girl by the name of Cathy who apologized and immediately put me through to the manager Jennifer. I wasn't upset just bummed that I would have to eat and work at the same time. Jennifer immediately apologized, offered a discount and even threw in a little something extra for the trouble. I can honestly say the Manager Jennifer went above and beyond to make the situation as best she could and for that I'm grateful. She was extremely pleasant and assured me my lunch would be out to me as soon as the driver returned for another pick-up and it was. So shout out to the manager Jennifer and to Cathy (and the driver for making two trips). You guys are great and thank you for the A++ service and the great food.

My boyfriend and I are looking for a sushi place to call home. Sadly this is not it. The service was average but I was disappointed by the food. I ordered the "crunch" roll. It was FIVE pieces. This is a portion size for someone that has already had a feast, not a meal in itself. I have been to dozens of sushi places and this was by far the smallest serving. The pieces notwithstanding were enjoyable, but I found the volcano roll sauce made it MUCH better. (Keep reading) My boyfriend ordered the volcano roll. He got 8 pieces, but the roll was covered in at least 3 oz of the mayo-based sauce. He spent a solid five minutes moving globs of mayo off of the roll so that the roll was visible to the naked eye. Any flavor of the roll was overpowered by the sauce, so it basically tasted like rice textured mayo. It was a $40 meal for two rolls and unsweet tea. Sorry Sushi Maki, you are not the place for me.

I've gone to two maki locations and both locations have had the same good service and good quality food. I'm not a big raw sushi fan so I stick with the cooked rolls(for an indicator on my personal review). Everything is presented in a nice manner and nothing taste foul or unappealing. The dragon rolls are great as well as the kobe beef sliders.You don't have to she'll out a pretty coin or two to indulge at this place either. TIP: if you check in at the location you automatically get a free saki drink. :)

I gave Sushi Maki a 4 star mainly on their prices and staff. Really, the staff was more than friendly to suggest great pieces in their menu and the prices (I was on a date) were unbelievably cheap,..so much she wowed at them. On my search for a G.F. in Miami and just recently moved from NYC, this place was suggested by a friend. The ambiance is family and date friendly, the space allocated for a couple is nice enough to talk to each other without feeling crammed. I will certainly go back again but this time with someone else. Thanks Sushi Maki for recommending the Red Dragon Reloaded. My date and I loved it.

Great place for a quick sushi trip in South Miami. Some of my favorite items here are the chili garlic edamame (a little spicy for me, but worth the tears), tuna tataki, dragon roll, and rainbow roll. You also have the option of ordering your roll with brown rice for no extra charge. I used the Yelp check-in to get a free sake cocktail and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to eating here again.

I loved Sushi Maki, for $8 you get a great bento box for lunch which includes your choice of a soup or salad with edamame, 4 pieces of California Roll, pork goyza, fried rice and red curry chicken. In south Miami that's a pretty decently priced lunch! However, my bento box came with the addition of human hair in the red curry chicken, not once but twice. The first time it happened which was last Tuesday the waiter replaced my meal and it happened again today! The manager was nice enough to offer a 15% but hair in my food with the time span of a week is too much for me to stomach. I won't be coming here again for lunch.

Surprised, it was really good for what I thought was "fast food sushi." The tuna salad, dragon roll, garlic chili edamame, and sake cocktails all were very fresh and tasty and comparable to high end sushi joints. We will be back for sure! 6 of us went here. Ordered two boats, a bucket of beer, and some hot sake. Some ordered salad and some got soup. I've had a lot of sushi and this place is up in my top 3. The chefs did a great job and this was the first first time I saw women chefs. I hope I see more because their food was amazing. Quick lunch with good service. Really nice inside, small but cozy. I ordered a single sushi roll, forgot what it was called but it consisted of salmon, avocado, and crab. It was good, tasted fresh. Really just OK, I have had better Sushi for the price. Our waitress was very good at checking on us and it was clean, bonus! Yes, if I am in the area I would try them again. Hey, not the best sushi but we did appreciate a nice clean restaurant with good service. Simple decor and the bathrooms were also very clean.

Well we were in the area to get our nails done and do some shopping and I was hungry.... I hadn't had sushi in a while so we spotted this place and decided to try it. Decor is nice and the restaurant is very open. The sushi bar wasn't that big but they had quite a lot of tables. The service was good. Our waitress was attentive and very nice. Our drinks were never half full, but always replenished! The food was decent. I ordered the lunch special which was a California Roll and 6 pieces of sashimi of the chefs choice. It also came with a bowl of Miso soup. Mine was very good! It was a ton of food for a good price at lunch. The fish was good and cold but it wasn't the best I have had. Mom ordered some type of a roll with these sweet onion strings on top. The flavor wasn't all that good but she enjoyed it! A decent place for the area. I have experienced better sushi but their prices are good for the location! We will prob stop back in!

Sushi Maki is an nice little sushi bar. The fish is fresh and tasty. I started with the Conch and Maguro sushi which were both excellent. It was the first time I have ever had Conch and it was excellent. I also had the Spider roll and one other one which I forget the name of but both were well made and tasted great. Normally I Yelp restaurants before eating there and that has never failed me. My Mendoza Line is 4 stars. Hadn't eaten here in awhile and did not Yelp it until I finished eating. Figured it was just lunch and a few blocks from my office. Bad mistake on my part. Ordered a Dynamite Roll which I just about order in every Sushi restaurant I frequent. Each one is better than the next, except here. Normally served warm/hot dripping with mayo and flavor. This one was cold as if it was made the night before and put away for the next day. Worst dynamite roll I ever had. The items on the Bento lunch box also lacked flavor. Safe to say I won't be back again. Guess I had not been back for a reason. Too bad I forgot why.

Really more of a 3.5 to 4. But, my beer was forgotten, and there must be retribution. We were at the Art Festival & popped in here for lunch. Truthfully, it was more of a strolling halt on the sidewalk. Eating outside, especially during a fair, leads to stellar people watching. The special pad thai was exactly what I was looking for. Though I wound up looking for more shrimp. Two pieces isn't very special. And the sauce could have been toned back a bit. This didn't stop me from clearing the plate however.

These are not the freshest sushi you can find in Miami, but usually people go because of the convenience, relative affordability, and the upscale vibe. Note about the vibe: I didn't really find this location to be very upscale - it just reminded me somewhat more of Starbucks but with more wooden furnitures than sofas. The Gables location is nicer-looking in the inside, so next time I want to have Sushi Maki, I'll probably check out the Gables. I have not checked out the Pinecrest location. That being said, I liked the Crunchy Roll which has no rice and is replaced with salmon, and stuffed with asparagus and imitation crab, wrapped in seaweed, and then is tempura fried. I also tried the Red & Green Roll and I thought the avocado was a little unripe. The tuna tasted a bit fishy. I liked the fact that there's a seaweed salad in the roll though - but I'll probably stick with the Crunchy Roll or try something else (maybe without tuna and avocado unless if they're available more fresh on other days). I don't know about this location, but from what I understand, the newly opened Sushi Maki in FIU and UM's main campuses are to be served with sustainable fish and they have boba (bubble tea) as well! Just for that, they win some points with me.

I remember when this place was Wrapido. So glad it's Sushi Maki now. Came in late on a Saturday night with the husband and a friend. While crowded, we were seated right away. We immediately were asked for drink orders which arrived while we were still reviewing the menu. A note about the menu: it's so creative! Not only the food selections, but also the layout of the menu itself. This restaurant is committed to environmental sustainabilty, which I love. They only use certain fish and fisheries that have a reduced impact on global health. Awesome. I had steamed veggie dumplings and a beautiful fresh salad. Both items arrived at perfect temperature. The salad greens were fresh and crispy and were tossed in just enough dressing (I hate it when my salad is swimming in goop.) My dumplings were perfect. There were so many other things on the menu that I know I'll be back soon to sample some more. And I know that I will be impressed and happy each time I go.

The tacos are a definite must-order item on the menu. The sushi is phenomenal WHEN you know what to order. I always opt for the and rolls topped with tempura flakes(makes it complete). The bubble-tea is my all-time favorite beverage in tis entire universe, and they have like 6 flavors here. Hello..jackpot? I know, I know, its a chain-based restaurant which usually tend to lack luster but this place is clean, the service is extremely fast and the food: consistent. I've never had something I haven't enjoyed except maybe the over-the-top rolls which leave my mouth confused. I like to stick to the basics when it comes to sushi, because well everything else is just filler.

I know its cool to hate chain restaurants, but this Sushi Maki is pretty good. If you're in the neighborhood and the wait at Akashi and Matsuri are too long and you've just got to get your sushi fix, give Sushi Maki a try. I've been to this location a couple of times and the service has always been great. The sushi may not be as great as it is at the nearby sushi restaurants, but its decent.

When I am craving something healthy and quick and I am around this area then Sushi Maki does it for me. I always start with a nice bowl of hot miso soup. I love their veggie & avocado rolls. Always fresh and quick to come out. Their salad is also delicious with a wonderful ginger dressing that just hits the spot. I had previously had the veggie pot stickers but they are just not my favorite. A great starter are the addicting Adamame. The place is close to the Sunset Shops so the location is awesome, only draw back is the parking. The best area is to park by Sushi Ra's garage. Great & consistent service, very friendly. Price is average. They also deliver to my office, which is a great plus.

I got the shrimp tempura ramen. The ramen was rather salty & lack a good amount or an variety of vegetables. All I got in my ramen were seaweed, bean sprouts, carrots and two pieces of broccoli and two shrimp tempura on the side. My friend got a salmon bento box & it was rather small. It came with fried rice, edamame, salmon and miso soup. The rice has eggs, peas and carrots, it was rather ok. Her salmon was rather good but a bit tough. The miso soup was refreshing.

Since I have a newly developed romance with sushi, I couldn't think of a better way to start my yelping career than with a review of my first real sushi experience... Sushi Maki is a great place to be on a Tuesday evening...no crowds, quick and friendly service and yes, yummy, fresh sushi. The JB Tempura roll is great for beginners (like me), and you could do no wrong with the classic Dragon Roll--don't forget the extra eel sauce on the side! Overall, this place has my approval and I will definitely be back for more.

I came here for lunch and ordered the grilled chicken bento box ($8) which comes with miso soup or salad and 2 dumplings, 4 piece california rolls, lo mein and edamame. I went with the salad and it was larger than what you get at most Japanese restaurants. The service was excellent and quality of food for the price was excellent as well. I was very content and highly recommend this place for lunch.

Tuna tataki $9.95 portion was pretty decent. Tasty but not great. Dragon roll had probably 8 pieces. Not too bad. I expected more I guess. Decor was cool, good music. Wanted to sit at the bar but the sushi chef didn't look too chatty... I'd rather head over to Akashi anytime! :P Tip-bits: Outdoor seating and indoor-by-the-window good for people watching! :)

I mean for a quick lunch bite this place does the trick. The decor is simple but elegant and comfortable. The service lacks some but then again we showed up at the end of the lunch shift and she was probably the last one and ready to change the shift and leave. My friend and I had some of their lunch bento specials, which were pretty satisfying for 7 bucks. I mean it wasn't out of this world sushi, but it definitely did the trick. It came with 4 pieces of sushi, a california roll, edemame, fried rice, and 2 of their special dumplings and you can opt for miso soup or salad. I did notice they already had the tuna tacos on the menu that we had sampled at the sushi maki event.... I smiled as a reminiscence of the good times we had at the Yelp tasting event.

I had dinner at Sushi Maki for the first time last week, and must say it was pretty darn good! I asked our server for a recommendation and he suggested the Coral Reef roll, which was fantastic. In fact, it was so good I spent the entire next day craving it. I also tried the eel roll which was bigger and better than many I have tried. No complaints about the service or the prices. Parking in the garage around the corner is a snap, and on weeknights it only costs $1 per hour.

Sushi Maki is a decent place to go to when you are in the South Miami area looking for sushi. I go for lunch every once in a while with my co-workers. The lunch specials are pretty good , I usually get the sushi lunch special for 11.95. It comes with 6 pieces of sushi and California roll, I upgrade it for a dollar more for the JB Roll, this also comes with a soup or salad. There sushi is fairly fresh, nothing out of this world but pretty good. During the day if it's nice and cool out side you can sit outside and watch people passing by. You can also do this at night. I haven't been for dinner, but I don't think there dinner prices are worth this quality of sushi. We go because it's walking distance from my job, and it's pretty fresh. Can't complain, servers are pretty good, and they wrap up any left overs you may have. If you need to split checks with bigger parties they do this too. That's always a plus in my book. If you want a quick fix and your in the neighborhood I would give it a try, especially for lunch!

Sushi Maki is a simple fusion of flavors but at my last visit there, I found THE tastiest dishes off their menu! I HIGHLY recommend everyone try their rock shrimp tempura, tossed in a delicious spicy mayo.It's my absolute favorite (and quite possibly could give Sushi Samba's own rock shrimp tempura a run for their money)! Also, their miso-glazed sea bass is another MUST HAVE! Absolute perfection;buttery and amazing! Their mango bubble tea is my favorite!

This place always seems busy during the weekends. It's small and cute. The sushi isn't the greatest however, the portions are generous. The prices are pretty good and if you sit outside it's a nice spot for people watching. I usually have the Dragon Roll here but lately it's lost its umph and I've started to try different rolls but I haven't been blown away yet. As far as service, they're ok. This is a easy spot after some shopping especially due to its location right on Sunset.

To be honest, I am not a big fan of sushi. I have had some bad experiences with sushi, including a date that did not go so well when the meal did not agree with me. And I am really not a fan of seafood under the best of circumstances. And those are just some of the reasons that I have to rate Sushi Maki so highly. I ended up there because it was close to Titanic, I was in the neighborhood, and needed to find some place for dinner that a friend (who is a real connoisseur of sushi) could enjoy. Even though it was a Saturday night, we were seated right away and the atmosphere was not too noisy to have a conversation. I went for the Dragon roll as it is fried shrimp tempura and some shumai while my friend went for three of the recommendations offered by the waitress. I found the dragon roll very tasty and was rather surprised, as I have had some of the other tempura shrimp rolls elsewhere but they did not compare. Even my friend enjoyed it. I also tried some of his coral reef roll as it was topped with something fried (i believe it was a sliver of fish) and found it surprisingly yummy. One of the things I do admire is that the taste seem balanced between tangy and sweet and does not require much else to make it a great meal. I know, I know - it is a chain. But that is not a bad thing. After all, there is a reason that a restaurant has gained enough popularity to have more than one location. And it is nice to know that no matter where you go nationwide, you should be able to find something that you like at a place that you can trust.

I wanted to put 1 star b/c the service was horrendous but the food, as usual, was good. When I lived in South Miami I loved eating @ this Sushi Maki. However, recently my b/f and I ate here and our menus were thrown at the table - the waitress came maybe 2 seconds after asking what we want to drink (which is usually a good thing) but when my b/f said, "water for now" (meaning he wanted to order something else) she grabbed the drink menu from his hand and walked away. I had to get up and go after her to get it back. And then she came back in maybe 5 sec asking what we wanted to eat (thank goodness we always order the same thing or else we wouldn't have had enough time to decide). My roll (jb tempura) and salad (spicy tuna) came at about the same time and she grabbed my salad before I was done (didn't even ask). We felt rushed the whole time and they weren't even busy! Also, when the table next to us got up the two waitress (in English) were talking sh*t about the two girls - saying they were complaining about the food and how annoying they were. That was extremely unprofessional and "annoying". We left the waitress a crappy tip - she deserved it.

Fantastic! I loved it. Though, it's freezing in that place. I'm from San Francisco and the only time I wanted to put on a jacket my entire trip was sitting at the table letting my shrimp tempura roll digest. The waitress was a doll, the veggie tempura was incredible, great service with a smile! Not to mention my cousins pretty much licked the plates of their ginger salads and I scarfed my roll as if I hadn't eaten in a year. Yum Yum Yum!!!

Went here looking for some Bubble Tea with a friend. I've been to the Sushi Maki stand in the University of Miami, which is how I knew to check this place out for Bubble Tea. I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of flavors (start offering Taro!!), but the flavors they do have are good. I've also eaten here, and they give you a lot of food, and it's pretty good. I like the big wooden divided bento style boxes the lunches come out on.

The food here is A-OK, just worthy of 3 stars. It's nothing exciting or original, but the quality is decent. I had the spicy tuna roll, which tasted fresh, but there was nothing spicy about it. The dragon roll was also lacking in some pizzaz. My mom got the skewers and fried rice, which were also, again, good but kind of boring. The service here is great and the decor is cute. It's a solid restaurant, just don't expect to be wowed.

I had tickets for a 7:20 movie and strolled into here at 6:30 after finally finding a parking spot. We ordered right away. I forget what my date got but I had the Crazy Roll. I'd never had that before and it was outstanding. I'm making it a 4-star review because a couple pieces of the roll were so big that I had to eat them with my hands. In and out in 30 minutes. My upset stomach was probably caused by eating so quick.

Sushi Maki is part of a chain of sushi bars. The fish is fresh and tasty, but my review is about their ramen. I've been to quite a few sushi bars in my travels and not all of them serve ramen. I'm not talking about that Cup O'Noodles crap (the staple food of many a college student), but the real deal with hearty helping of protein (be it pork, chicken, shrimp or tofu), a oodles of noodles, veggies and plenty of broth, served in a bowl that borders on being a lake. All this for $7-8. Cannot be beat.

When I first got into sushi 13 years ago, this restaurant was a go-to for dining out. My palate for asian cuisine soon advanced and I left sushi maki in the dirt. They really didn't offer anything exciting and with so many neighbouring sushi restaurants to choose from, why have good when you can have great? Fast forward to a month ago. My bf and I were walking around Sunset Drive and saw a sign for happy hour at sushi maki promoting their endless sake summer. This evening they were featuring Karen Coy sake...50% off! That's our absolute favourite sake. The only other restaurant I know that serves that is on South Beach. This was way closer (and cheaper) so we decided to go to eat also. Low and behold Sushi Maki had also updated their menu featuring many of their new rolls and appetizers at a discount during happy hour. There is definitely influence of Sushi Samba on their new menu, with sushi tacos, and tiraditos abundant. We were gluttons. We had an order of sushi tacos, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail (my fave is the tuna), and followed it with the Budda-Cane roll (shrimp tempura, with mango, avocado, spicy mayo, and sugar cane soy), the Haystack (salmon, whitefish, avocado, kanikama, topped with sweet potato strings, and ceviche mayo), and the silky smooth salmon (spicy salmon, avocado, and tempura flakes, topped with salmon and sour cream). We liked it all so much that we returned the following evening and tried in addition to more tacos, and another Budda-Cane, the Two Timing Tuna (spicy tuna, avo, temp flakes, topped with tuna) and the El Chulu Camaron (shrimp temp with guacamole, topped with tomatillo salsa). We also tried a few sake cocktails which I could take or leave. We have since returned several times and tried a few other items. Here's the breakdown. Definitely try the tacos. They're $2.50 for one but at $7 for 3 it's a pretty great deal. It'll also give you the chance to try all three varieties and pick your favourite. Pass on the Godzilla Gone Wild. I found it to be very underwhelming and very overpriced. The Budda-Cane is a mainstay, as is the two timing tuna. Good alternatives are the Haystack and the Silky Smooth Salmon. El Chulo Camaron.....meh. We haven't made it to the tiraditos yet...that'll have to wait till next time which I'm sure won't be too long. The only negative I have to say is that Endless Sake Summer....why did you have to end? I can't ait till their next happy hour promotion starts up. We'll definitely be there a lot more then.

Sushi Maki isn't the best place for sushi in South Miami but it does the job. Sometimes I choose this place over other sushi spots because it's convenient, well priced and close to the theater and my job.

Used to go here pretty frequently, but then we discovered Sakura. The best thing about Sushi Maki is that they deliver. Service is good and I did like that you could eat al fresco. Otherwise, they use way too much rice on their rolls and the past few times we ate there, the salmon tasted off (I always order the University roll.) The only reason I would eat there again in the future would be if I wanted sushi delivered.

An ordinary place, not the best sushi. I heard good things about the Gables location. But we went to the S. Miami one on a Friday night around 10pm. From what I heard I thought the surroundings and ambiance would be a little upscale, but the place looked like a fast food joint. We had the soft shell crab for starters. It's suppose to be fried and crispy but I thought it was dried out. I had the Romeo & Juliet roll as my main dish; half tuna, half bbq eel. The tuna was meager but the eel was good. The GF had the Dragon roll, which was shrimp tempura. She said she liked it. I had a bite and it was decent. We also had the doughnuts to top off our meal. It was decent with condense milk as a dipping sauce. Service could have been better considering the fact that we were the only ones there. Modest-low prices are a nice feature. At best, I see Sushi Maki as a lunch spot or dinner on the week night. I found Sushi Maki to be mediocre. I don't know about the one in the Gables but I be hard press to come back to this place.

After arriving into Miami, I was so hungry and honestly could eat anything that was served to me. We got to Sushi Maki a little after 9pm, I love the area that it's in, who doesn't love Sunset Blvd.! Food was alright, service could have been better. Serving sizes suck for the prices! If you're looking for a quick sushi fix, then Sushi Maki isn't that bad. Its like a chain sushi place. This location has the better service...beware of the one in the Gables. I love the tuna salad...dumplings. Nothing drop dead spectacular but if you crave some raw tuna go for it. Its pretty inexpensive and in a close location to Sunset. Have to say I would have rated it 4 stars over 5 yrs ago...seemed a little nicer then. But now its great in a pinch. If you know your way around go a few blocks back and try Miyako.

In Miami, we get good weather (where one can sit out and enjoy a meal with a cool breeze hitting you) very rarely.. So, every time that day comes around and I feel like sushi, some from my posy and I go eat here. Good weather isn't the only time we hit up Maki, it is a bi-monthly affair b/w Maki and I. The wait staff is really nice, may be they are just used to seeing us there often enough. The sushi is good, nothing extraordinary, but simple and clean.. Their Sake selection, although not extensive, is sufficient. It's usually two of us that go here, get 3 orders of sushi or 2 orders of sushi and 2 orders of sashimi with some servings of sake (I'll leave out the exact number of bottles we can polish off). The service and the food has been consistent and I've been going to the Sunset location, for something over five years now. If you're looking for simple, clean and a relaxed meal - go to Maki.

Very personable staff, nice presentations, fair prices, fish very fresh, A vert pleasant restaurant. I like the traditional sashimi, but they have some very creative items on the menu. The manager was especially helpful to this somewhat handicapped guest.

Other than the Ra Sushi very close to this Sushi Maki, this is the only place I would come for sushi whilst in Miami. My roommate and I would come here atleast once every two weeks. The quality of the food was pretty good, but I have definitely had better. They had several interesting rolls. I would order the Coral Reef roll almost every time; probably my favorite one. Tuna, salmon, and white fish along with cream cheese, scallions and asparagus, topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. A pretty good combination for sure. I would also order the Umame Tower (tuna and salmon sashimi made into a tower along with avocado covered in a tropical fruit salsa). This was probably the best thing at Sushi Maki. Would recommend this place if you are in the area and feeling a little sushi.
